Add/Move Dialog Box

The Add/Move Files window is displayed when you use the drag and drop interface to add files to an archive or use the Add/Move to Zip file option from the right-click shortcut menu.

The Add Files dialog box lets you type the name of the archive in the Type a name for the Zip file edit field if it is a new Zip file.

See Add/Move Dialog Box Options for a description of the options available in this window.

Compatibility note

WinZip supports the 64-bit extensions to the Zip file format. The extended format lets you store all of the data you need in Zip files of virtually unlimited size.

The original Zip file format limited the number of member files in a Zip file to 65,535 and the maximum size of both the Zip file itself and any member file to 4 gigabytes. For all practical purposes, the 64-bit extended format eliminates all of these restrictions: member file size, Zip file size, and number of member files are limited only by your system's resources.

WinZip remains fully compatible with the original file format and uses the original format whenever possible. WinZip uses the 64-bit extended format only when the limits of the original format are exceeded.

You should be aware, however, that very large Zip files compressed with WinZip 9.0 or later are not compatible with earlier versions of WinZip and may not be compatible with other Zip file utilities.

In order to better help users differentiate between Zip files created using Legacy Zip 2.0 compatible compression methods and those Zip files created using more advanced compression methods, beginning with WinZip 12.1, any Zip file created using Legacy Zip 2.0 compatible compression methods will have the file extension .zip and any Zip file that was created using the Best compression methods will have the file extension .zipx. Most Zip utilities can extract from .Zip files created by WinZip 12.1 or later. Please see Choosing a Compression Method for additional information on the compression methods used in WinZip.
