Why can't I open Zip file attachments in Outlook Express 6.0 SP1?

In Outlook Express 6.0 SP1, Microsoft made a change to the way that e-mail attachments are handled. When this version of Outlook Express is installed, Outlook Express will, by default, block access to many kinds of file attachments, including Zip files. When it blocks such attachments, Outlook Express displays a message that says:

"OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:" followed by a list of the blocked attachments.

To correct this problem, download and install Microsoft's Cumulative Patch for Outlook Express (330994) from the Microsoft website.

If you're not sure whether Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 is installed on your system, you can start Outlook Express, click the Help menu item, then click "About Microsoft Outlook Express", and check the version information displayed above the Microsoft Copyright line. If this information begins with "6.00", and includes in parentheses the characters "xpsp 1", followed by some numbers, then you have Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 installed.
