|A WinZip Pro license is required in order to span Zip files to CD and DVD. Support for spanning to diskettes is no longer available. If you are using an older WinZip version and would like information on spanning to diskettes, please see Zip file spanning with diskettes.
WinZip Pro will automatically create a Zip file that spans multiple discs if the Zip file will not fit on a single optical disc. To burn a new Zip file to a CD or DVD, click the File tab and then click New Zip file on CD/DVD (look on the File menu with Windows XP). It is also possible to burn a new Zip file to a CD or DVD when using a WinZip Backup.
Supported disc formats are: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW (spanning is not supported with Blu-ray discs).
|Note: The maximum amount of data written by WinZip directly to a DVD is 4gb.
With WinZip installed on XP, an existing Zip file can be written to CD/DVD. To do this, choose the Send ToCD or DVD option on the File menu. However, you must make sure your Zip file will fit on one disc in this case as spanning only works when creating a new Zip file.
Unzip a spanned Zip file
To unzip a spanned Zip file, first insert the last disc of the spanned series and open the Zip file using WinZip; this will display the list of files and folders and allow you to extract them. WinZip will prompt you for each disc as needed to complete the operation.
