Does the person receiving my message need WinZip E-Mail Companion or WinZip?

Recipients of your e-mail messages do not need WinZip® E-Mail Companion to receive e-mail attachments that have been compressed with E-Mail Companion.

He or she must, however, have WinZip or another Zip file utility in order to extract and open the files contained in a zipped attachment.  In fact, if you receive attachments that have been zipped, you also will need a Zip file utility such as WinZip to open your zipped attachments and extract their contents.

Additionally:

  • If you use AES encryption, the recipient must have a Zip file utility that supports AES encryption, such as WinZip 9.0 or later.
  • If you use "best" compression, the receiver must have a Zip file utility compatible with all of WinZip 11's compression methods.
