The situation described in the title may be something that WinZip E-Mail Companion cannot control. Microsoft's Outlook team was contacted in the past and problems that we have seen with various Outlook add-ins were reported. Microsoft verified problems of this sort that, in most cases, are a result of the way that some other add-ins connect to Outlook.

The results of our particular investigation by Microsoft cleared WinZip E-Mail Companion of any faults, but did not present a pretty picture since there is no possible change to the Companion that WinZip can make to prevent the problem from occurring. There is also no way to prevent the possibility that Companion might be blamed for crashes. It appears, from our testing, that the blame goes either to the last add-in installed or the last add-in on the list of add-ins.

For help in determining the cause and exploring the possibility for a work around, please contact Technical Support. In your e-mail message, please include what you can of the following:

  • Is this a new install or did you upgrade from WinZip Companion for Outlook 1.0?
  • What antivirus application are you running? (Please include the version number)
  • Do you have any other file security application, such as a firewall or spyware application running? If so, what is it?
  • Do you have any other applications installed that interact with Microsoft Office applications? (Adobe, antivirus, etc)
  • Please open Outlook, click Tools, and select Options. Now click the Other tab and then the Advanced Options button. In the Advanced Options dialog, please click the Add-in Manager button and record what you find. Next, please repeat this with the Com Add-ins button.

If you are using Outlook 2007 please substitute the next step for the one above.

  • Please open Outlook, click Tools, and select Trust Center. When the Trust Center dialog opens click the Add-ins button (upper left). Please record both the Active and Inactive applications listed.

You are welcome to create and send screenshots to provide any of the information above.
