The situation described in the title is one that WinZip Courier (and/or WinZip E-Mail Companion) cannot control. Problems of this nature were reported to Microsoft's Outlook team. Microsoft verified that issues of this sort are a result of conflicts with other add-ins, usually as a result of how they connect to Outlook.

Although the results of the investigation by Microsoft cleared WinZip Courier of any faults, it did not provide any means for preventing such issues from occurring. Additionally, there is no way to prevent the possibility that Courier might be blamed for these issues. It appears, from our testing, that the blame goes either to the last add-in installed or the last add-in on the list of add-ins.

Note: A specific add-in that has been discovered to be one cause for this issue is the Anti-Spam toolbar installed as part of McAfee Total Protection. If you have this application, you can work around this conflict by configuring the McAfee toolbar to not appear. To do this:

  1. Open McAfee Total Protection
  2. Click the Web and Email button
  3. Click the Anti-Spam link
  4. Click the Anti-Spam Toolbar button
  5. Uncheck the Outlook box in this area and save the configuration

After doing this, McAfee will continue to function for anti-spam, but will no longer cause a conflict with Courier when you open Outlook.
