How to create a screenshot and send it to tech support

Here is how to make a copy of a screen to send to technical support under Windows 7 or Vista

1. Click Start, click All Programs, and click Accessories
2. Click Snipping Tool
3. Move the crosshair Snipping Tool cursor to the upper left corner of what you want to copy
4. Click your left mouse button, holding it down move the cursor to the bottom right corner, and let go of the button
5. Click FileSave As in the Snipping Tool window
6. Send the resulting JPG file by email as an attachment

Here is how to make a copy of a screen to send to technical support under
Windows XP

1. Press PrtScrn on the keyboard when the screen is displayed. This copies the screen image to the clipboard.
2. Start Paint (click Start MenuProgramsAccessoriesPaint)
3. Choose Attributes from Paint's Image menu, then press the Defaults button in the resulting dialog box
4. Choose Paste from Paint's Edit menu
5. Choose Save from Paint's File menu, and save the file
6. If you cannot save the screen image as a JPG file, zip the result (it is very important to zip the file as otherwise it will be huge). Either way, send the file by email.
