After installing WinZip 14.5 or later, you may be surprised by WinZip's new "Office" style
ribbon interface pictured below (Windows 7 and Windows Vista only). This new design simplifies the use of WinZip and adds new features, such as a simplified Zip option with a handy Encrypt check box; a 1-Click Unzip option that automatically extracts the contents of a Zip file to a folder it creates for you; and an Auto Open feature that will extract and open a Microsoft Office document, spreadsheet, or presentation when you double click a Zip file. Despite easier use and new features, some may prefer an interface they have used with an earlier WinZip version.

The WinZip Ribbon interface

To configure WinZip to use another interface:

  1. Click the Settings tab in the ribbon
  2. Click the Options button
  3. In the Configuration dialog that displays click the View tab
  4. Choose the Legacy menus/toolbar radio button or the WinZip ribbon interface radio button
  5. Click OK

View tab of the Configuration dialog

As stressed by the red underline in the picture above, the change you make will not take effect until the next time you start WinZip. To start using WinZip with the interface you chose, close WinZip and open it again.

The Legacy menus/toolbar radio button will cause WinZip to open with an older version of the WinZip Classic interface. To open Configuration from this interface, click the Options menu.
