The initial release of WinZip E-Mail Companion 2.0 was made in September of 2007. Features in the Companion were developed to work well with Microsoft Outlook 2007 and other applications that are included with Microsoft Office 2007.

WinZip E-Mail Companion 2.0 can be used with Outlook 2010, but design differences in this latest Microsoft Office version do affect and limit the Companion.

Outlook 2010

Perhaps the first big change you will notice in Outlook 2010, if you have used earlier versions, is that there are no menus. Versions up to Outlook 2007 had menus in the main Outlook window,

whereas Outlook 2010 uses the ribbon interface here as well as in messages.

Click the Options button in the File tab

The elimination of menus and the switch to a File tab makes opening the "global" configuration dialog much less obvious. To configure global settings for WinZip
E-Mail Companion with Outlook 2010, click the File tab and then click the Options button.

In the Outlook Options dialog that opens

  1. Click the Add-Ins button
  2. Click WinZip E-Mail Companion in the list of add-in names
  3. Then click the Add-in Options button

At this point an Add-in Options dialog will open displaying the configuration dialog for WinZip E-Mail Companion.

Additional Limitations

WinZip E-Mail Companion 2.0 will not install on a 64-bit operating system unless a supported 32-bit e-mail program has been installed. The Companion is a 32-bit application and can only be an add-in to another 32-bit application. Microsoft Office 2010 is the first Office version that is available in a 64-bit version. If you have installed this 64-bit Office version, WinZip E-Mail Companion 2.0 will not install or work with it.

Office 2010 applications have changed in that they include a File tab.

This replaces the Office Button used in Office 2007.

The File tab in Office 2010 applications displays what Microsoft calls the "Backstage view" to signify the area where you manage document options. WinZip E-Mail Companion will not be available in Office 2010 applications due to this change, as it was programmed to work with the older Office button and even older File menu.
