WinZip Mac Edition 2.0 is the current released version. If you are using an earlier version or build, you will want to update your copy. If you are a new Mac user or have not updated an application on your Mac before, the steps necessary to do this may not be obvious to you.
Note: WinZip Mac 2.0 is not a free upgrade. Registration codes from one major version of a WinZip application cannot be used to register another major version. If you do not wish to purchase an upgrade, you will need to uninstall WinZip Mac 2.0 and then reinstall WinZip Mac 1.5. Install files can be download from the Alternative Download Links page.
Determining the installed build
If you installed WinZip Mac Edition recently, it is likely that you have the latest version. However, if you would like to double check what version and build is installed, open WinZip Mac (or make it your active application) and click About WinZip Mac on the WinZip Mac menu.
When the About WinZip Mac dialog opens, you will find a Version number, which includes the build number. If you have the latest that would be version 2.0 and build 1172, displaying as 2.0.1172.0.
The final previous version and build is WinZip Mac 1.5, build 475.
Updating WinZip Mac
- Quit WinZip Mac if it is running
- Click Download Now in the WinZip Mac Edition Download page
- When the download completes and opens click on the WinZip Mac icon (pictured below), then drag and drop this onto Applications (in an open Finder window or on the Dock)
- A Copy dialog will open to verify that you want to use the newer version of an existing application; click Replace
The next time you open WinZip Mac the newer build will run.
Note: If you see an error message concerning the prior version still being in use, you will need make sure you "Quit" from that version and you may have to restart the computer before trying to finish upgrading.
