ZipSend is a subscription service, powered by YouSendIt, that can be used from WinZip Courier 3.5 (or later) or WinZip 16.0 (or later). ZipSend is not an application. There is nothing for you to install in order to have a ZipSend account and there is no registration information. We highly recommend that you see Related Articles at the bottom of this article.
WinZip Courier (also referred to as the ZipSend client software) and WinZip are applications. Both of them can be downloaded, installed, and tried as full-featured evaluation versions. In that way, you can experiment with them, along with the ZipSend account you create, to insure that the features available work as you expect. Subscription Service vs Application
So what is a subscription service and how is that different from an application?
It may be helpful to compare this to cable television. When a customer signs up for cable tv, in essence, a subscription service contract is begun. The cable company supplies all that is necessary for the customer to use cable tv, which is the subscription service and compares to ZipSend. The customer must purchase a television and hook it up to the cable connection in order to make use of the service. This is similar to purchasing, installing, and configuring a WinZip application in order to make use of your ZipSend account. So:
- If you only have a ZipSend account and do not have a WinZip application installed, that is like paying for cable tv without ever having a television. In this situation, you would have the potential to use the service, but no way to actually enjoy it.
- If you only have your WinZip applications installed and do not have a ZipSend account, that is like having a television without the cable tv service. In this second situation, there are some features you may be able to use, but you will be missing out on the additional service.
