When you start WinZip by double-clicking on the WinZip icon on the desktop or from the Start menu, WinZip will start with the NewZip.zip file open. You can add files directly to this open NewZip.zip file.

If you already have a WinZip file open, to start a new Zip file, click the File tab (the leftmost tab), move your cursor over New, and then select the type of file you want WinZip to create (Zipx, Zip, LHA, Backup, or PDF). This will close the current Zip file and start a new NewZip.zip file. You can now go through the process of adding files to the new Zip file.

You will be prompted to provide a new filename for the Zip file when you save it.
