Favorite Zip Folders
About Favorite Zip Folders
The "Favorite Zip Folders" feature organizes Zip files (.zip or .zipx) into one convenient list that is sorted by date, making it easier to locate all Zip files, regardless of where they came from or where they are stored. Unlike the standard Open Archive or Open WinZip File windows, the Favorite Zip Folders window treats the contents of multiple folders as though they were one folder.
Using the Favorite Zip Folders Dialog Box
On the WinZip® Ribbon, open the File menu, move your cursor over Open, and select Favorites.
When you open the Favorite Zip Files window, all Zip files in your Favorite Zip Folders are listed by date, with the most recently modified files listed first.
The first time you activate the Favorite Zip Folders window, it will automatically search your computer for folders containing or likely to contain Zip files. You can easily add and remove folders from your list of "Favorite Zip Folders" using the Options button.
To open a Zip file, select it and click Open, or simply double click on the Zip file.
Click Search to search for Zip files in other folders. The results of your search will temporarily replace the list of files in the Favorite Zip Folders window.
To add folders to your Favorite Zip Folders
To add a folder to the list of Favorite Zip Folders, click the Options button in the Favorite Zip Folders window and then click Add a folder to list. In the resulting folder-browsing window, select the desired folder and click OK.
Here's another way to add folders to the list: click the Search button in the Favorite Zip Folders dialog box, select the type of search you want, and click OK. When the search completes, the list of files in the Favorite Zip Folders window is temporarily replaced by the search results; select a Zip file and click Open, or double click the Zip file. If the Zip file resides in a folder that is not currently in your Favorite Zip Folder list, then by default, WinZip will ask if you would like to add the folder to your Favorite Zip Folders.
WinZip can be configured to handle the folder in one of three ways: it can automatically add the folder to your Favorite Zip Folders, it can ask if you want to add the folder to the Favorite Zip Folders (as described above), or it can skip adding the folder to the Favorite Zip Folders. You can configure the behavior you prefer by clicking Options in the Favorite Zip Folders window and then clicking the Other Zip Folders tab.
This setting should be chosen prior to running a search and only applies when opening a Zip file from search results. In particular, note that setting the option to Add the folder to Favorite Zip Folders automatically does not automatically add the folder of every Zip file you open to your Favorite Zip Folders.
