WinZip camera features require a Pro registration |
This article is being maintained as archived information. Except where specifically prevented from installing, current WinZip versions will display and use Snap and Share rather than the camera wizard. |
Note: WinZip Computing suggests using ".Zipx: Best method" compression when working with JPEG files. “.Zip: Legacy compression†provides minimal compression results while WinZip’s Best method will provide a 20-25% compression ratio. Zipx files, meaning ones created with Best method selected, will require others to have WinZip 12.1 or later to open them.

- Option 2
- Connect your camera to your computer and turn the camera on

Using the Camera Wizard
The Camera Wizard guides you through the steps for retrieving pictures, video, and audio files from your camera, compressing the files and storing them in a Zip file. Simply select your desired options in each panel and click Next to move on to the next step.
At any time after you have specified the camera from which to obtain the files, you can click Finish to start the process. WinZip will use common settings for the remaining options.
Note: We recommend that you proceed all the way through the Camera Wizard the first few times you use it in order to become familiar with the available options and see how WinZip sets them.
The Camera Wizard proceeds through five easy steps:
- Select Camera: select the camera containing the files you want to be zipped
- Specify Zip file and compression method: set the name of the Zip file to be created and specify where it will be stored. Also select the Compression method you want to use to compress your pictures. Zipx: Best method (smallest size) is the default setting so that you get the best compression possible. JPEG files can be reduced by as much as 20-25% using Best method compression.
Note: Best method (.zipx) compression requires WinZip 12.1 or later to open these files - Choose Your Download Options: specify various options: retrieve all pictures or just ones you pick. Retrieve video, audio, and other files stored on your camera. Choose to auto-rotate images so they are properly oriented (requires camera support).
- Select File Removal Option: choose how WinZip should manage your files after zipping. You can choose to leave all of your files on your camera, remove only the files that were zipped, or remove all files from the camera (Note: removing all the files from your camera deletes all of the files, not just the files that were zipped.)
- Review Settings: displays all of your settings for review
