The Decrypt Dialog
This window appears when you are attempting to encrypt an existing Zip file and at least some of the files in the Zip file are already encrypted with a different password; WinZip® requires the original password to decrypt the file before re-encrypting it. This window opens when you
- Turn Encrypt on in the Actions pane and then click Apply to... on the Options drop down menu
- Click Selected Files on the Tools tab of the ribbon, choose Encrypt, and then click Convert Selected Files
- Choose Encrypt from the Actions menu of the WinZip Legacy Toolbar.
When you are encrypting all files in a Zip file (.zip or .zipx), WinZip needs to decrypt and then re-encrypt any files that are already encrypted. If a file cannot be decrypted using the encryption password you have specified, WinZip displays this window and asks for the correct password. You can supply the correct password, skip the current file, or cancel the entire operation.
To supply the correct password
- Type the password in the password edit field.
- Tip: use the Show/Hide password eye icon to display the password or to prevent the password from being displayed as you type it.
- Click OK to continue the operation.
- Note: WinZip will continue to use the password you specify here for any additional files being decrypted and re-encrypted in the current operation. If the new password is incorrect for any of the remaining files, this dialog will appear again.
To skip the current file
- Click the Skip button. The current file will be skipped, but WinZip will continue to decrypt or encrypt any additional files using the current password.
To cancel encryption
- Click the Cancel button. The encryption operation will be stopped, and no additional files will be encrypted.
