When you unzip a file, WinZip decompresses it and places it in the folder of your choice. You can restore whole folders and retain the structure of all sub-folders. The example explains doing this using the WinZip Ribbon. In the ribbon, unzipping is performed in the Unzip/Share or Copy to tab.

  • In the Unzip/Share tab (for existing WinZip files)

    • If you click the upper portion of the 1-click Unzip button, the files will be unzipped to the folder specified by combining the Location and the Folder name fields. See the Unzip/Share tab help for more information about how this works.
    • If you click the lower portion of the 1-click Unzip button, you can choose Unzip to My PC or Cloud. This will open the Unzip window, where you can specify the location to place the unzipped files, including locations in the cloud. After selecting the folder, click the Unzip button to unzip your files.
    • In either case, if you want to unzip the entire Zip file, regardless of whether or not any files are selected in the main WinZip window, click the All files button on the ribbon before unzipping.

  • In the Copy to tab (for new, unsaved WinZip files)

    • Click the Unzip to My PC or Cloud button to open the Copy window, which allows you to specify where the files shold be unzipped. After selecting the location, click the Copy button to unzip your files.

Note: if a Zip file contains a "setup" or "install" program, you can use the Install Feature to automatically unzip the files, run the installation program, and clean up temporary files.
